Edge-welded bellows are used to provide flexible, leak-tight motion in demanding vacuum and pressure environments. They are particularly suited to ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems where minimal outgassing, high cleanliness, and long fatigue life are essential. Typical applications include linear motion feedthroughs, thermal expansion compensation, vibration isolation, pressure boundary sealing, and alignment mechanisms in vacuum chambers.
These bellows are manufactured from precision-stamped AISI 316L diaphragms, edge-welded to form a robust yet highly flexible assembly. They are also fitted with AISI 304L rotatable CF16 flanges (clearance bolt holes) and incorporate internal AISI 304 support rings, allowing the use of a central shaft up to Ø15 mm while maintaining stability and preventing buckling under vacuum or differential pressure.
The use of 300 series low-carbon stainless steels ensures excellent corrosion resistance and weld integrity, as well as low magnetic permeability and suitability for clean vacuum environments. However, these bellows are not recommended for use with hydrochlorides or halides.
All bellows are supplied UHV-clean, with plastic protective caps fitted to the flanges and sealed in a clean bag to prevent contamination prior to installation.
